Ajax and Web 2.0
Mike Barlow, Sensor Technologies / ACGNJ Lotus Notes User Group

Abstract :

The term Web 2.0 was started in 2005 at a conference and has taken hold on the media and market place. Likewise AJAX (short for Asynchronous Javascript and XML) is considered by some to be one of the core technologies for ?Next Generation? web applications. Come take a look at some of the applications which are already out there, which are forming the basis for the ?World Wide Web Next Generation?, and at the same time find out how YOU can get a foot up on developing your own AJAX applications in a ?technology neutral? (e.g. NOT J2EE, NOT PHP, NOT ASP or .NET) Forum. Warning: a basic knowledge of Javascript and HTML will be advantageous to fully understand this presentation, but is not required.

Advanced Web Site Development using Open Source Libraries (Workshop)
Mike Barlow, Sensor Technologies / ACGNJ Lotus Notes User Group

Abstract :

Ever see some snazzy web site do "fancy things" very fast? Things like showing or hiding blocks of text and/or images without making laborious round trips back to the server? Such things are possible by using Dynamic HTML Coding (DHTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Over the years a number of standard functions have been developed and released to the public as Javascript Libraries. Even companies like Microsoft and O'Reily (best known for publishing all those great "Animal" cover books) have released to the public domain such libraries. This year Mike is going to demonstrate how to use one of these libraries (specifically "Moo Tools") to help in generating some really kewel web site functionality. He will explain how to do "Drop Down Menus" and "Fading Pages" as well as a super simple "Light Box/Slideshow" and also how you can "Get Moo" and start snazing up your own web sites with little effort through the use of open source Javascript Libraries.
