How to Network Without Falling on Your Face
by Michael Goldberg , Building Blocks Consulting
Creating relationships are essential to being successful in today's business world. Most people are not born networkers; they develop the skills through education, training, the right attitude, and long practice. Whether attending a meeting, making a sales call, or interacting in a business setting, it's not who you know but who you want to know. This session provides many of the skills in greeting people, handing out your card, asking for their cards, listening, excusing yourself, and introducing yourself to others. Additional discussions will focus on emotional based marketing, target markets, and how to 'work a room'.

Human-Edited References on the Web
by Joseph Wetterling, Consultant
As the web grows faster and faster, computer-driver search engines have a harder time providing useful information and commercial sites with paid staff simply can't keep up. While the comprehensiveness and usability of many directories and search engines suffer, thousands of net-citizens work together to form 100%-human-edited information sources. Sites like The Open Directory Project and Wikipedia have become important and relevant sources of information online. This presentation will overview the successes and challenges of human-edited online references.

Ubuntu Linux: What's New for 2006
by Og B. Maciel
Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Philosophy that software should be available free of charge, software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit. These freedoms make Ubuntu fundamentally different from traditional proprietary software: not only are the tools you need available free of charge, you have the right to modify your software until it works the way you want it to. The new version of Ubuntu, code named Dapper Drake, is the product of 6 months of tremendous effort by the entire Ubuntu community. It includes the latest and greatest software the Open Source community has to offer into a coherent and easy to use distribution.
Biography of the speaker :
Og B. Maciel is currently a volunteer for the Ubuntu Linux Team. He has been engaged as the administrator for the official Brazilian Translators Team for the past 5 months and been extremelly involved with the Open Source community among the Portuguese speaking community. True to the meaning of the word Ubuntu, or "humanity to others", I have done my best to help improve other people's way of life by completely and selflessly donating his time and skills.

On the opposite side of the law, defendants charged with computer crimes face an uphill battle at trial because most lawyers have a computer phobia which causes almost all cases to end in a guilty plea. These crimes are ensnaring more innocent people than any other type of crime. Learn how to protect yourself when you are suspected of committing a computer crime.
